We're delighted to announce skills4uni, developed in partnership with the University of Birmingham (UoB), has been shortlisted in the Best E-learning category at the TJ Awards. The ceremony itself will take place following TJ's Annual Conference on the 21st September in London.
skills4uni study skills is a highly interactive online programme, which gives prospective students an idea of what to expect from university life. It includes tools to help students identify what kind of learner they are, advice on critical and objective thinking, how to use the library, and practical tips on taking notes/asking questions in lectures.
Highly interactive e-learning is nothing new, nor is study skills training. But this is the first time e-learning has been used in the UK higher education sector to develop study skills for pre-entry learners.
Since its launch in 2008 the programme has been evaluated rigorously against the Kirkpatrick model and has demonstrated its value at all 4 levels, showing how e-learning can have a positive impact in developing skills, knowledge and understanding, and helping to address positive behavioural change.
Alec Keith, Epic's Marketing Director, enthused, "This is a reward not only for the quality of the programme, but also for the thorough evaluation of its impact. As we know, evaluation of e-learning is often talked about, but rarely seen...until now. The evaluation process has clearly shown the value of the programme, so it's not surprising the wider academic community has taken note. No less than 12 other universities are interested in using it as part of their collaborative work."
